GARDEN VISITS GROUP: We will be holding our AGM at the Cossham Hall Thornbury on Monday November 8th
starting at 2.30pm.
Phil Roos will show slides of Sylvia's favorite gardens including some our group
has seen.
We will review this year's visits and welcome suggestions for next year's
programme.
The £1 entry will include the subscription for 2011 programme and tea and
biscuits.
Any member of the U3A interested is very welcome to come.

TOLKIEN GROUP. No, this is not a fan club, there will be no 'Frodo Lives!' badges, but an opportunity
for admirers of this subtle and complex thinker, author and eminent philologist to explore his various
works.

Thornbury U3A has, just recently, produced a little booklet entitled Guidelines for Group Leaders.
If you have ever considered becoming a group leader, but are uncertain of what it entails or where
you might go for help, then we suggest that a good way to start is to read this guide. It’s quite
short, but contains a lot of useful advice and, perhaps even more importantly, a contact list of
friendly people who can help you further this noble ambition of yours to lead a group.

We have received an email from a Brian and Catriona Luckhurst and think that
members may be interested in the holiday/travel opportunities described in the
website they are running. We have made no charge to the Luckhursts for this and
Thornbury U3A will, of course, accept no responsibility for any problems any
member may encounter in making use of the services offered: If any member does
make use these services, he or she may like to let us know what they thought of

At the 2009 AGM it was announced that the membership was 1534 and that the annual
subscription for 2010, payable in January, will be £6, or £10 for two people at
the same address. This includes a payment of £2.50 per member to the Third Age Trust.
